In a significant push toward clean energy adoption in the industrial sector, Emergeโa joint venture between Masdar and the EDF Groupโhas signed a partnership agreement with UAE-based energy solutions firm Turbotim to develop a hybrid solar and battery energy storage project at Turbotimโs Ras Al Khaimah facilities.
The agreement, finalized during the Make it in the Emirates Forum, will see the deployment of two identical rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, each with a capacity of 763 kilowatts peak (kWp), paired with a 2.5 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS). Combined, the project will deliver 1.52 megawatts peak (MWp) of solar power and 5MWh of energy storage.
Emerge will provide a comprehensive turnkey solution encompassing project financing, design, procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance over a 20-year contract period.
Currently reliant on diesel generators, Turbotim is expected to significantly reduce its carbon footprint and energy costs by transitioning to this hybrid renewable energy model. The installation is projected to prevent over 2.1 million tons of COโ emissions annuallyโcomparable to the electricity use of 240 households or taking 474 petrol-powered vehicles off the road.
Speaking on the development, Dr. Saad Al Tameemi, Chairman of Turbotim, stated:
โThis partnership with Emerge marks a major step forward in Turbotimโs journey toward cleaner, more efficient energy solutions. By integrating solar and battery storage into our operations, weโre not only reducing our environmental footprint but also creating long-term value through energy cost savings and greater energy independence.โ
Michel Abi Saab, General Manager of Emerge, emphasized the broader impact:
โThe agreement signed with Turbotim, a leading industrial player, highlights the value of distributed solar and storage installations in reducing reliance on fossil fuels. With our end-to-end delivery model, weโre proud to support businesses in the UAE in achieving their decarbonization goals.โ
This project aligns with the UAEโs national sustainability agenda and is part of a broader strategy to foster industrial decarbonization and renewable energy integration across the country.
