NTPC Green Energy And Opera Energy Win 95 MW/380 MWh Battery Storage Projects To Boost Kerala’s Grid Stability

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and Opera Energy Private Limited have won projects under NHPC Limited’s tender for standalone battery energy storage systems in Kerala. The total capacity under this tender was 125 MW/500 MWh, designed to be connected to the intrastate transmission system and supported by viability gap funding. NGEL emerged as the top bidder, securing a total of 80 MW/320 MWh through two separate projects.

One of these is a 40 MW/160 MWh system at the Pothencode substation, awarded at a tariff of ₹4,57,000 per MW per month. The other project is a 40 MW/160 MWh system at the Sreekantapuram substation, awarded at a tariff of ₹4,34,000 per MW per month. Opera Energy also won a project under this tender, securing a 15 MW/60 MWh capacity at a tariff of ₹4,38,000 per MW per month. These battery energy storage systems aim to help manage grid stability and handle demand fluctuations in the state of Kerala.
