Carbon2Nature, an Iberdrola Group company focused on reducing the global carbon footprint through nature-based solutions, has partnered with MERLIN Properties to launch the MERLIN Forestโ€”a pioneering reforestation project and a first in the real estate sector. Located in Serradilla del Llano (Salamanca), the project aims to restore 200 hectares of land severely affected by the provinceโ€™s most devastating wildfire in recent history. Carbon2Nature will oversee the technical management, maintenance, and monitoring, while MERLIN has committed to stewarding the forest for the next 50 years, demonstrating a long-term commitment to environmental responsibility.

The initiative involves the planting of more than 300,000 native trees across 192 hectares, with the goal of capturing over 160,000 tons of COโ‚‚ over five decades. Certified under Spainโ€™s official carbon absorption standards, the MERLIN Forest will not only act as a natural carbon sink but also promote biodiversity, support pollinators, improve soil health, and conserve water resources. Located near the Las Batuecas โ€“ Sierra de Francia Natural Park, the project represents a powerful example of how private-sector collaboration can drive meaningful climate and ecological impact.
