Mowilex Turns To Solar: 1 Out Of Every 4 Liters Of Paint Now Made Using Sun Power At Cikande Facility

PT Mowilex Indonesia has taken a significant step forward in its environmental efforts by installing solar panels at its Cikande factory. This expansion is part of the company’s long-standing commitment to clean and renewable energy. Mowilex had previously installed solar panels at its corporate headquarters in 2022, becoming the first paint company in Indonesia to invest substantially in solar power. The new installation at the Cikande facility reinforces the company’s environmental leadership and dedication to reducing its carbon footprint.

At the Cikande factory, over 500 solar modules have been mounted on the main building’s roof. Additionally, 252 modules have been installed on canopies over car and motorcycle parking areas. Together, these panels are expected to reduce the factory’s use of grid electricity by approximately 500 kilowatt-hours annually. This reduction means that for every four liters of paint produced at the facility, one liter is now manufactured using solar energy.

By shifting more of its energy consumption to solar power, Mowilex is aiming to reduce its use of non-renewable energy sources by up to 25% each year. This initiative contributes to lowering the company’s overall carbon emissions and supports Indonesia’s broader goals of transitioning to cleaner energy. It also comes shortly after Mowilex received its sixth consecutive CarbonNeutral® company certification, highlighting its ongoing efforts to maintain environmentally responsible operations.

This solar investment also represents a strategic move toward greater energy independence and sustainability. Unlike brown energy, which relies on fossil fuels and contributes significantly to environmental degradation, solar power offers a cleaner and more reliable alternative. The adoption of solar technology not only supports Mowilex’s internal sustainability goals but also responds to the growing expectations of Indonesian consumers.

According to research by the global communications firm Edelman, 87% of Indonesians are concerned about climate change, and more than 90% feel that businesses are not doing enough to address the issue.
