Nestlé (Thai) Ltd. has officially transitioned to using green electricity sourced from renewables across all six of its manufacturing facilities in Thailand, marking a significant milestone in its sustainability roadmap. The move, which began in July 2025, comes through a partnership with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) under the Utility Green Tariff 1 (UGT1) program.

The UGT1 program enables industrial users to tap into renewable electricity—such as hydroelectric and solar power—though sources are not individually specified. With this shift, Nestlé aims to meet its target of using 100% renewable electricity in its Thai factories by the end of 2025, as part of its global Net Zero 2050 commitment.

The transition covers the company’s ice cream factory in Bang Chan, coffee creamer plant in Bang Pu, Nestlé Waters facilities in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya and Surat Thani, and two pet food factories in Rayong.

Philippe Glauser, Technical Director of Nestlé (Thai) Ltd., said the company is proud to be among the first FMCG firms in Thailand to participate in the UGT1 program. “This collaboration represents more than just an energy shift—it reflects our strong stance on sustainability. Transitioning to renewable electricity is not optional; it is a necessity for protecting our planet,” he stated. “This aligns with our philosophy of creating products that are Good for You and Good for the Planet.”

Representatives from both power authorities welcomed the partnership. Amphol Sanguanwong, Director of MEA’s Power Economics Department, emphasized that the collaboration supports Thailand’s efforts to meet growing green electricity demand in the industrial sector. “It’s a pivotal step for industrial competitiveness and environmental responsibility,” he noted.

Echoing this, Suchada Kongdham, Director of PEA’s Power Economics Policy Department, said the joint initiative reinforces national sustainability goals and demonstrates successful public-private cooperation. “The UGT1 program showcases how businesses can lead in supporting a sustainable energy future that benefits the economy, environment, and society,” she added.

Nestlé’s engagement in the UGT1 program is in line with its broader ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) framework. The company continues to integrate sustainability into all aspects of its operations, from sourcing and production to delivering affordable, nutritious food to Thai consumers across all age groups.
