In the face of global volatility, shifting trade relationships, and a changing climate, Canada must strengthen its economy while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Yasir Naqvi, Member of Parliament for Ottawa Centre and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade and to the Secretary of State (International Development), announced on behalf of Energy and Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson a $2.5 million investment through the Energy Innovation Program (EIP) to help Ottawa-based TerraFixing advance its made-in-Canada carbon management technology.

The project will scale up direct air capture technology optimized for cold climates by enhancing COโ‚‚ capture beds. Using structured zeolite packing โ€” a porous mineral that traps COโ‚‚ from the air โ€” the system reduces pressure drop and improves COโ‚‚ mass transport. The ultimate goal is to fit a 1,000-tonne-per-year unit into a shipping container and bring costs below $100 per tonne at commercial scale. In the face of global volatility, shifting trade relationships, and a changing climate, the country must strengthen its economy while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. “EIP’s CCUS Capture contribution has been catalytic for TerraFixing. With the funding, we’ve built a state-of-the-art lab, doubled our team and developed a new manufacturing IP that we’re now moving from benchtop to a pilot production line in a warehouse right here inย Ottawa. The program’s support is helping us keep innovative technology and IP inย Canada, create supply chain independence from the U.S. and stimulate the creation of hundreds of high-skilled jobs on the path of makingย Canadaย a global leader in carbon capture, utilization and storage.” said Dr.ย Vida Gabriel, Co-founder and CEO/COO,ย TerraFixing Inc.
