Canada Invests $2.5 Million in Ottawa Firm to Advance Cold-Climate Carbon Capture Technology

In the face of global volatility, shifting trade relationships, and a changing climate, Canada must strengthen its economy while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Yasir Naqvi, Member of Parliament for Ottawa Centre and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade and to the Secretary of State (International Development), announced on behalf of Energy and Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson a $2.5 million investment through the Energy Innovation Program (EIP) to help Ottawa-based TerraFixing advance its made-in-Canada carbon management technology.

The project will scale up direct air capture technology optimized for cold climates by enhancing CO₂ capture beds. Using structured zeolite packing — a porous mineral that traps CO₂ from the air — the system reduces pressure drop and improves CO₂ mass transport. The ultimate goal is to fit a 1,000-tonne-per-year unit into a shipping container and bring costs below $100 per tonne at commercial scale.In the face of global volatility, shifting trade relationships, and a changing climate, the country must strengthen its economy while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. “EIP’s CCUS Capture contribution has been catalytic for TerraFixing.
