Mr. Ashish Khanna, Director General of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), along with a high-level ISA delegation, met with H.E. Dr. Eng. Sultan Woli, Hon’ble State Minister of the Ministry of Water and Energy, Ethiopia, in Addis Ababa to discuss the country’s solar energy development plans.
The meeting focused on Ethiopia’s ambitious solar energy initiatives, including the development of a 400 MW solar park, a 700 kW solar mini-grid, and the deployment of solar-powered water pumps to support both irrigation and drinking water needs.
Key discussions also explored potential avenues for enhanced financial and technological cooperation between ISA and Ethiopia, aimed at accelerating the deployment of solar energy solutions across the country. The collaboration aligns with Ethiopia’s strategic goal of increasing renewable energy adoption and advancing sustainable development objectives.
Mr. Khanna emphasized the importance of international partnerships in scaling up solar energy, noting that leveraging ISA’s expertise in financing and technology could help Ethiopia achieve its renewable energy targets more efficiently.
Dr. Eng. Sultan Woli highlighted Ethiopia’s commitment to expanding access to clean energy, describing the projects as pivotal for supporting rural electrification, agricultural productivity, and climate-resilient development.
