Ormat Technologies, Inc. announced that it has signed a 25-year extension to its existing power purchase agreement with the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) for 52 MW from the Heber 1 geothermal facility. Effective February 2026, the agreement will secure the ongoing delivery of clean, baseload geothermal power to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and the Imperial Irrigation District (IID). โThis previously announced agreement has now received the required approvals, which demonstrates both the promise of geothermal energy and Ormatโs ability to deliver reliable, renewable power at scale,โ said Doron Blachar, Chief Executive Officer of Ormat Technologies. โWe are proud to extend our partnership with SCPPA, LADWP, and IID in order to continue supporting Californiaโs climate leadership and ambitious climate and energy transition goals through our Heber 1 geothermal facility.โ
The Heber 1 plant, a flagship asset for Ormat, has been a key provider of clean energy in Southern California for decades. Following a successful repowering project, it now operates with advanced air-cooled technology. Together with the rest of the Heber complex, the facility delivers 91 MW of carbon-free, around-the-clock electricity. This PPA extension ensures that Heber 1 will continue supplying reliable geothermal power to millions of California residents through 2052.
