Shri Pradip Kumar Das, Chairman & Managing Director of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA), has underscored the critical role of green education and skill development in achieving India’s renewable energy targets. Speaking at the 7th International Conference on Sustainability Education (ICSE), organized by the Mobius Foundation at the India Habitat Centre, Shri Das called for dedicated green skilling centers of excellence to prepare India’s workforce for the nearly 3 million green jobs expected by 2030.
Shri Das emphasized that India’s clean energy transition relies not only on technological advancements and capital investment but also on developing a skilled workforce capable of supporting large-scale renewable energy deployment. He highlighted IREDA’s ongoing collaborations with academic institutions, including IITs, to create a knowledge bank that promotes innovation and green skilling.
IREDA’s initiatives have also made significant progress toward operational efficiency, with the organization becoming fully paperless. Additionally, the agency has financed over 27 GW of renewable energy projects, contributing to approximately 600,000 construction jobs and 50,000 long-term operations and maintenance roles.
“In realizing India’s renewable energy goals and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, it is imperative to invest not only in capital but also in human resources,” Shri Das remarked. He further called upon the government, industry, financial institutions, academia, and civil society to collaborate in building a resilient and inclusive green economy.
Reaffirming IREDA’s broader mission, Shri Das stated, “Our aim is to finance renewable energy projects while also supporting knowledge development, skill-building, and community welfare. Through impactful CSR initiatives in health, education, and rural infrastructure, we are committed to ensuring that India’s clean energy transition benefits all sections of society.”
As part of its outreach efforts during Seva Pakhwada, IREDA has also launched green energy education and renewable energy awareness programs across schools in the Delhi-NCR region, further strengthening its commitment to youth engagement and community development.
