The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has announced an extension of the “Development of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects” scheme. Through an Office Memorandum dated September 17, 2025, the Ministry has extended the timeline of the scheme by three years, allowing ongoing projects to now be completed by March 31, 2029. This extension is intended to give project developers and state power departments additional time to finish ongoing solar parks and settle committed liabilities. The Ministry emphasized that this extension will not involve any extra financial support from the government.

The Office Memorandum also clarified that while the overall scheme has been extended, new approvals or sanctions for any available capacity under the scheme will only be granted until March 31, 2026. This means that any new projects seeking support or capacity under the scheme must apply before this date. The measure provides developers with a clear timeframe to plan and execute their projects efficiently while ensuring that existing commitments are met.

The decision has been formally issued with the approval of the Honorable Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution. The memorandum has been circulated among key stakeholders, including State and Union Territory secretaries, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), and all Solar Power Park Developers (SPPDs). By directly communicating with these stakeholders, the Ministry aims to ensure that all parties involved are informed about the revised timelines and the conditions for new project approvals.

This extension is expected to support the smooth completion of ongoing solar projects, helping India continue its focus on renewable energy development. With additional time, developers can address any pending challenges in project execution and complete the necessary infrastructure without facing financial penalties or government constraints. This step also helps in managing the transition to future initiatives under the scheme, ensuring that Indiaโ€™s solar energy sector remains on track to achieve its renewable energy targets.
