Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupendra Yadav, delivered a special address at the opening ceremony of the 7th International Conference on Sustainability Education (ICSE). The conference, organised by the Mobius Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO, UNEP, CEE, IUCN, and several other environmental and educational organisations, took place on 17 September at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. This year’s event focused on the development of green skills and fostering youth leadership for a sustainable green economy.

In his address, Bhupendra Yadav highlighted India’s progress in shifting from fossil fuel dependence to renewable energy sources. He emphasized that achieving the Paris Agreement’s targets will require collective global effort, adding that platforms such as ICSE play an important role as catalysts in this transition. He also praised the Mobius Foundation for its commitment to inclusivity and sustainable development. Yadav commended its initiatives like the Gyan Kanya Shakti Program, which promotes girl child education in rural areas, and Project Aakar, aimed at stabilizing population growth—together impacting more than 1.5 crore people. He remarked that ICSE has become a platform where innovative ideas are shaped into practical solutions. This year’s theme of “Green Jobs,” he said, highlights the need to equip youth with the necessary skills for a green economy and align education with employment to ensure development remains balanced with environmental preservation.

Serving as Chief Guest, Pradip Kumar Das, Chairman and Managing Director of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd (IREDA), stressed the urgency of incorporating sustainability education on a broader scale. He noted that while the government is making significant strides in promoting renewable energy and sustainable development, education remains a key driver for accelerating progress. Das pointed out that India is now the world’s third-largest producer of renewable energy, surpassing several developed nations, and emphasized that the country’s ongoing efforts aim to create over three million green jobs and achieve net-zero emissions in the near future.
