Momentum Group Limited has commissioned two large-scale solar energy projects at its Centurion head office in Gauteng and Parc du Cap regional office in the Western Cape, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and energy security.

Now fully operational, the installations are expected to generate a combined 7.5 GWh of electricity annually—enough to power approximately 28,500 streetlights for a year. The projects will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 8,900 tonnes annually, equivalent to about 3,200 return flights between Johannesburg and London.

The solar systems, mounted on both rooftops and carports, are grid-tied, allowing solar power to feed directly into the offices’ electrical systems. This offsets daytime energy consumption and decreases reliance on municipal supply.

Momentum Group projects annual cost savings of R13 million from the installations, with the investment expected to break even within a short period. Beyond financial benefits, the initiative enhances business continuity by safeguarding operations against power interruptions and easing pressure on South Africa’s strained electricity grid.

“This is yet another significant milestone in our sustainability journey—reducing our carbon footprint while actively contributing to a more sustainable future,” said Lulama Booi, Executive overseeing Group Facilities Management. “Our long-term goal is energy stability and sustainable operations, ensuring consistent service to clients while contributing to national energy security.”

The installations form part of Momentum Group’s broader environmental strategy, aligning cost efficiency with carbon reduction and long-term operational resilience.
