ReNew Energy Global Plc, a leading decarbonization solutions company, has announced a reduction in the prices of its solar modules and cells following the Government of Indiaโs decision to lower the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on renewable energy equipment from 12 percent to 5 percent, effective September 22, 2025. The move is expected to generate significant savings for utility-scale developers, rooftop solar consumers, and farmers participating in flagship programs such as the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and PM-KUSUM, further expanding access to affordable clean energy across the country.
Commenting on the announcement, Sumant Sinha, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of ReNew, said that the GST reduction is a landmark step that will accelerate Indiaโs clean energy transition. He emphasized that ReNew is passing on the full benefit to its customers, reaffirming the companyโs commitment to affordability, scale, and sustainability. As Indiaโs largest integrated solar manufacturer, ReNew expects the policy change to boost adoption across segments, from large-scale developers to residential and agricultural users.
The GST reduction is projected to provide direct savings of up to โน10 lakh per megawatt for non-Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) modules and up to โน15 lakh per megawatt for DCR modules for utility-scale solar projects. Residential consumers under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana are expected to see the cost of a typical 3 kW rooftop solar system decrease by up to โน5,000, while farmers installing 5 HP solar pumps under PM-KUSUM will benefit from reductions of up to โน12,000. These savings are in addition to existing subsidies and financing support, making solar energy more accessible to millions of people.
As of September 2025, over 20 lakh homes have been powered through the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, while PM-KUSUM has achieved more than 10 lakh solar pump installations or solarizations nationwide as of April 1, 2025, with a record number of new installations in the financial year 2024โ25. The GST reduction is expected to further accelerate both programs, supporting Indiaโs goal of achieving one crore solar-powered households by 2026โ27 and expanding clean energy access across urban and rural communities.
ReNew manufactures approximately 21,000 solar modules and 61,000 solar cells daily. Its vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities, spanning cells, modules, and advanced solar components, position the company to deliver high-quality products at scale. ReNew remains committed to supporting Indiaโs renewable energy objectives and ensuring that policy benefits reach end consumers quickly and transparently.
The company regards this GST reduction as a significant milestone in Indiaโs solar journey, advancing efforts to make clean energy more accessible and affordable. It also provides an opportunity for stakeholders to benefit from reduced costs, unlock long-term savings, and actively contribute to the countryโs transition toward sustainable energy.
