Abu Dhabi-based EMSTEEL Group , one of the region’s largest publicly traded steel and building materials manufacturers, has unveiled TrueGreen™, a new strategic sustainability identity that consolidates decades of decarbonisation initiatives under a unified platform.
The initiative positions EMSTEEL as a benchmark for transparency and accountability in sustainable steel production, following a series of recent milestones. The company became the first in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to earn ResponsibleSteel™ certification and launched the world’s first pilot of electric process gas heaters in steelmaking.
These efforts build on EMSTEEL’s pioneering role in industrial decarbonisation, including its CCUS project with ADNOC’s Al Reyadah, sourcing clean energy, and introducing the region’s first hydrogen-based steelmaking pilot in partnership with Masdar. The company’s low-carbon steel has already been used in Abu Dhabi’s first net-zero carbon mosque on Yas Island, developed by Aldar, marking a significant regional milestone.
Through TrueGreen™, EMSTEEL will provide developers, contractors, and financiers with internationally recognised sustainability credentials, enabling compliance with emissions regulations such as the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). Each TrueGreen™ steel product will be supported by independently verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and digital monitoring systems that deliver batch-specific carbon data.
“TrueGreen™ is a declaration of our unwavering commitment to sustainable steel, built on decades of innovation and delivered as a transparent, verifiable advantage for our customers,” said Eng. Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi, CEO of EMSTEEL.
The initiative is aligned with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategy and NDC 3.0, which targets a 79% reduction in built environment emissions by 2035. With an emission intensity of just 0.67 tonnes of CO₂ per tonne of steel—well below global averages—EMSTEEL is positioning the UAE as a leader in industrial decarbonisation.
Globally, EMSTEEL has been recognised as a Steel Sustainability Champion, ranked among the top five steelmakers worldwide for decarbonisation, and appointed Co-Chair of the Alliance for Industry Decarbonisation led by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The company plans to expand the impact of TrueGreen™ through collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MOIAT), the Emirates Green Building Council, and international certification bodies to shape the future of low-carbon construction.
