PT Mitra Stania Prima (MSP) is enhancing its sustainability strategy by utilizing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from state utility PLN, a move that not only boosts production efficiency but also provides international recognition for its use of renewable energy.

One REC unit is equivalent to 1 megawatt hour (MWh) or 1,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity, serving as a green instrument to validate clean energy consumption. According to PT MSP President Director An Sudarno, this step has been instrumental in the companyโ€™s recent achievements.

โ€œThe use of RECs is an important indicator that helped PT MSP achieve the Green PROPER twice for the Smelter unit (2023 & 2024), and once for the Mapur Mine (2024). We believe this step is the right path towards our next target โ€” achieving the Gold PROPER and becoming the first environmentally friendly tin company in Southeast Asia,โ€ he said.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo highlighted that the clean electricity service provided to industries not only supports efficiency but also strengthens global competitiveness. โ€œPLN not only provides reliable electricity but also offers green products like RECs to help industrial customers improve competitiveness while contributing to the national energy transition agenda,โ€ he noted, adding that energy transition efforts also generate new employment opportunities and drive economic growth.

Echoing this, Ira Savitri, General Manager of PLNโ€™s Bangka Belitung Regional Main Unit, underlined the importance of partnerships with industries in achieving broader sustainability goals. โ€œPT MSP deserves appreciation for demonstrating that industry can play an active role in the energy transition. We hope this enthusiasm inspires others to contribute to a clean and sustainable energy ecosystem,โ€ she said.

Collaborations between PLN and industrial players such as PT MSP are seen as a crucial step in accelerating Indonesiaโ€™s energy transition, ensuring that environmental sustainability aligns with economic growth at local, national, and international levels.
