Solarvest Holdings Berhad, a leading regional clean energy expert, has announced that its special purpose vehicle, Mukah Solar Powerplant Sdn. Bhd. (MSPSB), jointly established with Press Metal Berhad, has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Syarikat Sesco Berhad (SESCO), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sarawak Energy Berhad. The agreement covers the development of a 100-megawatt alternating current (MWac) solar photovoltaic (PV) energy facility in Mukah, Sarawak, known as the Mukah Solar PV Plant.

MSPSB is jointly owned by Solarvest Asset Management (Borneo) Sdn. Bhd., an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Solarvest, holding a 60% equity stake, while Press Metal Berhad, an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Berhad, holds the remaining 40%.

Under the terms of the PPA, MSPSB will design, construct, own, operate, and maintain the Mukah Solar PV Plant. The project carries an estimated investment value of RM380 million, which will be funded primarily through bank facilities, with Solarvest’s equity contribution financed internally. The plant is scheduled to begin commercial operations on 30 November 2027.

Once operational, the Mukah Solar PV Plant is expected to offset approximately 46,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, contributing significantly to Malaysia’s transition toward a low-carbon economy. The project also represents a key milestone in Sarawak’s renewable energy journey, supporting both the Sarawak Energy Transition Strategy (SET-P) and the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

These frameworks aim to strengthen the state’s renewable energy ecosystem by achieving 10GW of installed capacity by 2030 and 15GW by 2035, with renewables accounting for at least 60% of the energy mix. Executive Director and Group Chief Strategy Officer of Solarvest, Mr. Leon Liew Chee Ing, highlighted that the Mukah Solar PV Plant is one of the largest clean energy initiatives in Sarawak and an important step toward realizing Malaysia’s net-zero ambitions. He added that the project would not only contribute to the region’s renewable energy capacity but also help position Sarawak as a regional clean energy hub.

The project is expected to create between 1,500 and 2,000 direct and indirect job opportunities for local workers during both construction and operational phases, offering economic benefits to surrounding communities. Beyond job creation, the initiative will empower rural populations to participate in the clean energy transition, contributing to long-term social and economic sustainability.

For Solarvest, the project reinforces its leadership in the Sarawak engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) market. It is expected to further expand the company’s order book to a record RM3.0 billion by the end of the financial year, supported by upcoming LSS5 and LSS5+ EPCC contracts and new projects across Borneo.

In addition to this project, Solarvest continues to play a key role in advancing Sarawak’s renewable energy economy through strategic collaborations and workforce development. In partnership with the Centre of Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., Solarvest launched the Green Energy Lab in 2023 to train more than 1,000 Sarawakians over five years in solar and green energy technologies.

This initiative underlines Solarvest’s commitment to building local expertise and driving inclusive growth in the region’s energy transition. By expanding its presence in the Borneo EPCC market and investing in local talent development, Solarvest is strengthening its long-term role as a trusted partner in Sarawak’s clean energy transformation and sustainable economic growth.
