Enphase Energy Introduces Comprehensive Off-Grid System for Energy Independence

Enphase Energy, Inc., has announced support for complete off-grid configurations designed to operate independently of the utility grid when required.

The off-grid system features the IQ Battery 5P with embedded grid-forming microinverters, IQ8 Series Microinverters with Sunlight JumpStart capability, and a third-party standby AC generator. Together, these components provide a reliable and flexible power solution capable of running an entire home without a grid connection.

Engineered to meet the growing demand for energy independence, the Enphase Energy System intelligently manages loads, battery charging, and generator usage. Advanced software optimizes generator operation, prevents back-feed damage, and now includes a dedicated “Off-Grid” system profile that can be selected during commissioning to ensure seamless generator integration and efficient operation without a utility connection.

With rising grid instability and increasing power outages, Enphase’s off-grid solution provides homeowners with enhanced reliability, flexibility, and control. Key system components include:

• IQ8 Series Microinverters – Featuring grid-forming capabilities and Sunlight JumpStart, IQ8 Microinverters can automatically recharge depleted batteries and restore power when sunlight returns, even if the generator is out of fuel.
• IQ Battery 5P – The third-generation Enphase battery delivers 3.84 kVA of power per 5 kWh of capacity. Systems can be scaled up to 40 kWh and 15.4 kVA, providing enough power to start large household appliances such as HVAC systems and water pumps.
• IQ System Controller 3G – Integrates an autotransformer to deliver 120/240 V split-phase AC and a Generator Interconnect Device (GID) for seamless operation with AC standby generators. Users can connect up to 15.4 kW of solar, 40 kWh of batteries, and 15.4 kVA of generator capacity, providing up to 46 kVA of off-grid power. Built-in load control allows users to automate energy use based on sunlight availability, generator status, and battery charge levels.

Each off-grid system can connect to the cloud via the Enphase IQ Combiner 5C HDK, which unifies solar interconnection, communications, and metering in a single enclosure. For areas with limited broadband access, the integrated 4G LTE Cat 4 modem provides dual-SIM connectivity with automatic failover to ensure uninterrupted cloud access for monitoring, firmware updates, and remote diagnostics. The modem is also available as a standalone accessory for use with legacy IQ Combiner 5 units.
