In a significant step toward promoting sustainable development in Northeast India, Apraava Energy, one of Indiaโ€™s leading integrated energy solutions providers, has partnered with SELCO Foundation to install solar power systems across community, health, and educational institutions in Assam and Nagaland. The initiative aims to deliver clean, reliable, and affordable energy to underserved regions, directly benefiting more than 21,000 people.

According to Apraava Energy, the solar installations are expected to reduce approximately 57 tonnes of COโ‚‚ emissions annuallyโ€”equivalent to planting 2,580 trees each yearโ€”advancing the companyโ€™s commitment to decarbonisation and inclusive growth.

Solar Infrastructure Enabling Community Development

In Assamโ€™s Chirang district, a 27.5 kW solar-powered facility has been commissioned to support essential community services. The centre houses a weaving unit for women artisans, mental health and physiotherapy clinics, a legal aid centre for women facing domestic violence, and youth engagement zones offering skill training and cultural platforms. More than 800 young people are taking part in regular developmental activities, while over 700 children in 17 forest-based learning centres now have access to clean drinking water and sanitation.

Advancing Education and Healthcare in Nagaland

In the Kohima district of Nagaland, the villages of Jhakama and Zhadima are now powered by 22.32 kW of solar installations and inverters that support remote schools, health centres, and community spaces. The initiative has enhanced digital learning infrastructure, benefitted over 1,000 students, upgraded five rural schools, and improved public safety through solar-powered streetlights.

CSR Focus on Holistic and Inclusive Growth

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Priyesh Modi, Head of CSR at Apraava Energy, said,
โ€œBuilding sustainable communities lies at the core of our CSR strategy. This initiative is a strong example of holistic development, uplifting every section of society sustainably. As we continue to expand our presence in the Northeast, we remain committed to transforming lives through meaningful interventions.โ€

Apraava Energy highlighted additional community programmes under its CSR umbrella, including the Agri-SHE programme in Assam, which is empowering over 3,000 women entrepreneurs in agriculture and livestock. In partnership with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, the company has also established a centralised kitchen in Jorhat providing nutritious mid-day meals to nearly 11,000 schoolchildren daily. The company is further supporting 15 grassroots women changemakers working toward social upliftment in the region.

Strengthening Energy Infrastructure in the Northeast

Apraava Energy currently operates transmission assets in Assam, Nagaland and Manipur. The company has also entered the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) segment with a smart metering project in Assamโ€”the first in India to be declared โ€˜Go-Liveโ€™ under the Government of Indiaโ€™s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

With these interventions, Apraava Energy is not only advancing its clean energy footprint but also contributing to long-term community resilience and socioeconomic transformation in the Northeast.
