The Eighth Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly convened at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, where Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and President of the ISA Assembly, Shri Pralhad Joshi, underscored India’s global leadership in accelerating solar adoption and pioneering the clean energy transition.
Addressing ministers and delegates from 125 member and signatory countries, Shri Joshi highlighted India’s remarkable achievements in renewable energy under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He noted that India has emerged as the world’s 4th largest renewable energy powerhouse, having achieved 50% of its total installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources five years ahead of its 2030 target.
“ISA is a true embodiment of global cooperation and collective action,” said Shri Pralhad Joshi, emphasising that India is not just participating in the energy transition, but leading it from the front. He reiterated India’s commitment to supporting developing nations through technology transfer, capacity building, and affordable clean energy solutions.
Key Highlights from Shri Pralhad Joshi’s Address:
- India’s Renewable Energy Milestone: Achieved over 50% capacity from non-fossil sources, positioning India as a global leader in clean energy.
- Driving Global South Leadership: India is amplifying the voice of the Global South and turning climate ambition into actionable initiatives through ISA.
- Focus on Inclusive Clean Energy Growth: Shri Joshi stressed the importance of solar deployment in rural areas, small island nations, and emerging economies to ensure equitable access to green technologies.
- ISA as a Catalyst for Global Transformation: Under India’s presidency, ISA has transitioned from policy advocacy to large-scale project implementation, enabling affordable and scalable solar energy adoption.
Strategic Initiatives Launched
- SUNRISE Initiative: A global platform to promote solar panel recycling, innovation, and circular economy practices.
- One Sun One World One Grid (OSOWOG): A dedicated programme to interconnect solar energy systems across continents.
- SIDS Procurement Platform: 16 Small Island Developing States signed an MoU to accelerate coordinated solar procurement and enhance energy security.
Shri Joshi stated, “Under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India has transformed its renewable energy journey from scarcity to sustainability. Through ISA, this transformation is now being shared with the world to ensure universal access to clean, affordable, and reliable solar power.”
Global Recognition of India’s Role
International leaders, including representatives from France, commended India’s leadership in shaping ISA’s trajectory and advancing the Paris Agreement goals. The Alliance, now a coalition of 125 nations, is rapidly expanding solar deployment through strategic finance, innovation hubs, and green technology pathways.
