SECI Signs Government Orders with Andhra Pradesh for 1200 MWh BESS and 50 MW Hybrid Solar Project

The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), a Navratna Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), has exchanged Government Orders (GOs) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh for the development of a 1200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Nandyal and a 50 MW Hybrid Solar Project.

The exchange was formalised during the Energy Session of the Andhra Pradesh Partnership Summit 2025 held in Visakhapatnam. The event was organised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Government of Andhra Pradesh, in collaboration with CII.

Project Authorisation and Oversight

As per a Ministry of Power order dated 23 January 2025, SECI has been designated the implementing agency for the 1200 MWh BESS project under Market-Based Operations. The project received approval from SECI Board Chairman Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi on 22 October 2025. MNRE continues to closely monitor the progress of both initiatives.

Projects to Be Executed Under CAPEX Mode

Both the BESS and the Hybrid Solar Project will be executed under the CAPEX model, with SECI responsible for full investment and implementation.

During the session, Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Shri Gottipati Ravi Kumar handed over the GOs to SECI representatives in the presence of Chief Secretary Shri K. Vijayanand and NREDCAP Vice Chairman M. Kamalakara Babu. SECI was represented by Shri Sivakumar Venkat Vepakomma and Shri Rohit Choubey.

The exchange of GOs marks a major step forward in strengthening Andhra Pradeshโ€™s clean energy infrastructure. SECI reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with state and central entities to accelerate Indiaโ€™s transition to sustainable and storage-enabled green power systems. The upcoming projects are expected to significantly boost the stateโ€™s renewable energy ecosystem and contribute to Indiaโ€™s expanding clean energy storage capacity.
