The Border Security Force in Gujarat has started an important project to increase energy independence at its border outposts. The tender has been issued under the Notice Inviting Tender for the 2024-25 financial year. The main goal is to set up off-grid solar power systems at eleven border outposts, including places such as Nadeshwari, Khejadiya, and Ranchordas. These solar plants will each have a capacity of 25 KWp and will help supply reliable power in remote locations where conventional electricity is not always dependable.
Along with the installation of solar plants, the project includes building new RCC-framed structures to safely store the battery systems. Each structure will have a minimum size of 150 square feet and must meet strict engineering and safety standards. The battery rooms must also provide at least 2.9 meters of headroom, a strong reinforced floor, and proper ventilation. These features are important because the batteries planned for this project are heavy and require a controlled environment to function well for many years.
The tender specifies VRLA Solar Tubular Gel Batteries with a total capacity of 1,80,000 Wh. These batteries will provide up to six hours of backup at full load and meet MNRE guidelines. This will help ensure that the border outposts can continue their operations without interruption, even when sunlight is not available.
The estimated cost of the entire project is โน3,62,66,923. To qualify, bidders must submit an Earnest Money Deposit of โน7,25,338. The contractor who wins the project will also need to provide a Performance Bank Guarantee equal to five percent of the final tender amount. The project must be completed within twelve months of the award. This initiative marks a major step toward improving a reliable, off-grid power supply for BSF operations in the region.
