A tender has been issued by the Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs (MEWA) of Bahrain for the construction of a 3 MW grid-tied solar PV power plant under a CAPEX model, to serve the General Sports Authority.
Under the tender (No. 484/2025/BTB, PA Ref: MEWA/RE/2025/T1), bidders are required to submit proposals covering the full scope: supply, design, procurement, transportation, construction, erection, installation, testing, and commissioning. Work is expected to be completed within ten months. After commissioning, the contract includes five years (60 months) of comprehensive operations and maintenance (O&M).
The tender opened recently — on 20 November 2025 — and attracted nine bidders, reflecting significant interest from the market.
In the bids opened during evaluation, the lowest bid came from Almoayyed Solar Co. B.S.C. at BHD 845,258.293, while the highest bid was submitted by EVERSYSTEMS WLL at BHD 1,887,600.000. Another bid from Kanoo Cleanmax Renewables W.L.L. was suspended during evaluation. Other bidders — including Midal Solar WLL — were accepted with conditions.
The project represents the government’s push to expand renewable energy adoption, even for modestly sized solar plants, by leveraging private contractors under CAPEX-based build-and-operate frameworks. If executed successfully, the plant will add to Bahrain’s growing solar capacity, reinforcing efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
