NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, one of the largest energy infrastructure developers in the United States, and Meta Platforms Inc., a leading global technology company, have reached approximately 2.5 gigawatts (GW) of clean energy contracts. This milestone was achieved through the signing of 11 power purchase agreements (PPAs) and two energy storage agreements (ESAs), reflecting the companiesโ commitment to advancing clean energy and supporting technology operations across the country.
Through nine solar projects in three major U.S. marketsโElectric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), Southwest Power Pool (SPP), and Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO)โNextEra Energy Resources and Meta executed PPAs enabling 2.1 GW of clean energy. In addition, four projects in Valencia and De Baca counties in New Mexico, comprising two PPAs and two ESAs, will deliver 190 megawatts (MW) of solar energy and 168 MW of battery storage to the Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) system under PNM’s Rate 36B. This rate allows Meta and other customers to efficiently contract for clean energy projects and align their operations with 100% clean energy.
New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating that it demonstrates the stateโs leadership in clean energy and economic development. She emphasized that the partnership is driving investments in energy and data centers, expanding the economy, empowering the workforce, and strengthening American infrastructure.
The 2.5 GW of new projects across 13 sites are scheduled to come online between 2026 and 2028. These projects are expected to create up to 2,440 construction jobs, stimulate local economic growth, and foster innovation in energy infrastructure.
Urvi Parekh, head of energy at Meta, commented on the collaboration, noting that integrating 2.1 GW across ERCOT, SPP, and MISO, along with more than 350 MW from the partnership with PNM in New Mexico, supports Metaโs data center operations and highlights how industry cooperation can advance technology and strengthen the nationโs energy infrastructure.
Brian Bolster, president and CEO of NextEra Energy Resources, emphasized the companyโs role in supporting Americaโs technology growth through energy infrastructure. He stated that working with hyperscalers like Meta not only helps data center operations but also drives U.S. leadership in energy innovation. Bolster added that these agreements demonstrate NextEraโs commitment to fostering economic growth, advancing technological progress, and supporting the countryโs clean energy goals.
These new 2.5 GW projects build on nearly 500 MW of operating projects that Meta already supports through prior agreements with NextEra Energy Resources. Together, these initiatives underscore both companiesโ shared commitment to strengthening American energy independence while helping Meta achieve its goal of powering operations with 100% clean energy.
