ACCIONA Energía has successfully completed the commissioning and commenced commercial operations of the Aldoga Solar Farm, a 480MWp renewable energy project located on the central coast of Queensland, Australia. This milestone marks a significant step in the company’s expansion and its commitment to sustainable energy in the region. The Aldoga Solar Farm is expected to generate clean electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of approximately 185,000 households, while preventing around 934,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
This reduction is comparable to removing about 360,000 combustion-engine vehicles from the roads. The entire renewable energy output from the solar farm will be supplied to Queensland’s state-owned energy company, Stanwell Corporation, under a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). This partnership will play a key role in advancing the decarbonization of the region’s energy sector.
The construction phase of Aldoga brought significant local economic benefits. At the project’s peak, it created 350 jobs for local workers and sourced up to AU$150 million (€90 million) in materials, components, and services from local suppliers and businesses. In addition to job creation and procurement, the solar farm has supported local infrastructure improvements, including upgrades to Flynn Road, and has funded community projects in education, healthcare, and cultural development.
As part of its community engagement initiatives, ACCIONA Energía launched a Small Grants Program to support a wide range of local organizations, including schools, emergency services, community associations, and cultural groups. In parallel, the company committed to a Legacy Investment Program to support larger, multi-year projects that will benefit the local population over time.
The commissioning of the Aldoga Solar Farm represents another step in ACCIONA Energía’s strategic growth in Australia, where the company has nearly 2GW of renewable energy capacity either installed or under construction across both wind and solar technologies. Currently, ACCIONA is also commissioning the MacIntyre Wind Farm in Queensland, a 923MW project that ranks among the largest wind farms in the Southern Hemisphere.
