ACCIONA Energía has been selected by the pharmaceutical company Ferrer to design, install, and commission a photovoltaic system for self-consumption at Ferrer’s facilities in Sant Feliu de Buixalleu, located in the Girona region of Spain. The project supports Ferrer’s long-term commitment to achieving a net positive environmental impact and improving the sustainability of its operations. The photovoltaic plant has a total installed capacity of 432 kWp and is located on the rooftop of Ferrer’s building, making efficient use of available space while enhancing the overall energy performance of the site.

Once operational, the system will allow Ferrer to meet its entire electricity demand using 100 percent renewable energy, leading to a substantial reduction in carbon dioxide emissions generated by its industrial activities. This initiative marks an important step in Ferrer’s Climate Transition Plan, which outlines the company’s strategy to reduce emissions across its own operations and throughout its value chain. The plan focuses on increased investment in renewable energy and other sustainability measures as Ferrer works toward its goal of becoming carbon positive. As a certified B Corp company, Ferrer prioritises partnerships that align with its values and contribute to building a more responsible and sustainable economic model.

The agreement further strengthens ACCIONA Energía’s collaboration with companies in the pharmaceutical sector, an industry that plays a significant role in the transition to a low-carbon economy due to its scale and high energy consumption. ACCIONA Energía currently supplies more than 575 GWh of renewable electricity each year to pharmaceutical companies, helping to avoid approximately 46,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. This reduction is equivalent to taking more than 17,500 internal combustion engine vehicles off the road and underscores the company’s ongoing contribution to decarbonising the pharmaceutical industry.
