Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a central public sector enterprise, has been selected as the winning bidder for a major Inter-State Transmission System project through a tariff-competitive Bidding process. The company shared this information through a formal disclosure to the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited on January 8, 2026. The project focuses on strengthening the transmission system for integrating additional renewable energy potential at Davanagere and Bellary in Karnataka. It is designed to support the evacuation and integration of 3 GW of renewable energy capacity, with 0.25 GW at Davanagere and 2.75 GW at Bellary, helping boost India’s clean energy supply.
The project will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer basis. POWERGRID informed that the Letter of Intent for the project was dated January 7, 2026, and was officially received the following day. The company will construct a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line passing through Karnataka. The scope of work also includes developing associated line bays at both ends of the transmission line, along with important augmentation tasks at existing pooling stations. These upgrades will include the installation of interconnecting transformers and additional line bays at the Davanagere and Bellary Pooling Stations. These measures will make the infrastructure capable of handling higher renewable energy input while maintaining grid stability and reliability.
The disclosure was made in compliance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations, 2015. It was signed by Satyaprakash Dash, the company secretary and compliance officer of POWERGRID. This new project highlights the company’s growing role in supporting India’s renewable energy goals by creating the necessary high-voltage transmission infrastructure. By enabling the movement of green power from generation sites to consumption centers, the project will contribute to strengthening the national grid and increasing the share of renewable energy in the overall mix.
