Solplanet Expands into Southeast Asia, Strengthens Regional Leadership Through Vietnam Partnership

Solar inverter manufacturer Solplanet has announced a strategic expansion into Southeast Asia, using Vietnam as a key entry point to build its presence across major regional markets including Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.

The expansion comes as Southeast Asia sees rising demand for solar energy solutions, driven by higher electricity prices, regulatory developments and growing interest in self-consumption and energy storage systems.

The announcement was marked by a distributor partnership signing ceremony and product presentation held on Thursday in Ho Chi Minh City. At the event, Solplanet officially unveiled its cooperation with Vietnamese distributor Sao Nam and presented a range of products from its inverter portfolio, covering residential, commercial and industrial, as well as utility-scale applications. The showcase highlighted the company’s intention to address multiple market segments across the region.

Southeast Asia is widely regarded as a market with strong long-term growth potential, particularly in residential and commercial and industrial solar segments, as countries increasingly pursue energy independence and smarter energy management. Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines are among the markets where solar adoption is expected to accelerate, supported by evolving regulations and rising interest in battery-backed solar systems.

As part of its regional strategy, Solplanet is investing in the development of local teams, including technical support resources, to work closely with customers and partners. The company said training, technical assistance and close collaboration with installers and EPCs will be critical to sustainable growth and long-term partnerships in the region.

To lead the expansion, Solplanet has appointed Simon Sun as Senior Regional Director for Southeast Asia. Sun brings extensive experience from global solar technology companies and is tasked with building a dedicated regional team, expanding distribution partnerships and strengthening technical and commercial support across Southeast Asia.

“Vietnam’s solar market is gaining momentum after several years of delay and is now entering a highly competitive phase,” Sun said. “By working closely with strong local partners like Sao Nam and investing in a regional organisation, we aim to support Southeast Asia’s transition with reliable, high-quality and competitively positioned smart solar solutions.”

Solplanet’s regional expansion builds on the global scale of its parent company, AISWEI. According to Wood Mackenzie’s 2024 Global PV Inverter Shipment Rankings, AISWEI ranked first worldwide in residential string inverter shipments and third globally in the commercial and industrial segment, while placing among the top six PV inverter manufacturers overall.

Operating internationally under the Solplanet brand, the company said it combines global manufacturing strength with local market expertise to support partners in rapidly evolving energy markets.
