PureSky Energy has announced the commercial operation of its Heath Brook and Sand Brook community solar projects in Corinth, New York. Together, the two solar farms have a combined capacity of approximately 12.92 MWdc, or about 5 MWac each, and are now supplying clean, renewable energy to the local electricity grid. The projects are expected to generate around 18.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, which is enough to power approximately 2,725 homes annually. In addition, they will help reduce over 30 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions each year, equivalent to removing more than 3,100 cars from the road. Over the course of their 30-year lifespan, Heath Brook and Sand Brook are projected to provide nearly $8 million in utility bill credits to local subscribers.
Both projects are part of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s Inclusive Community Solar Adder program. This initiative encourages solar projects to serve low-to-moderate income households. Under the program, 60 percent of each project’s capacity is allocated to eligible low-to-moderate income subscribers, ensuring that a majority of the benefits reach those who need them most. PureSky Energy worked closely with local organizations and implemented a simplified enrollment process to make it easier for qualifying families to sign up and start saving on their electricity bills.
Nicholas Topping, Vice President of Community Solar at PureSky Energy, said, “We are proud to bring these solar farms online in a way that benefits the entire community. The transition to clean energy must be fair and inclusive. By reserving a portion of capacity for low-income households, Heath Brook and Sand Brook are helping hundreds of local families reduce their electric bills while contributing to a cleaner energy grid for New York.”
The operation of these two solar farms represents PureSky Energy’s growing role in expanding New York’s solar portfolio and its commitment to making clean energy both accessible and affordable. By combining modern solar technology with an inclusive subscription model, Heath Brook and Sand Brook deliver renewable energy savings to a wide range of community members, including low-income families, local businesses, and larger institutions.
This approach aligns with New York’s focus on energy equity, ensuring that the financial and environmental benefits of clean energy reach historically underserved groups. Residents and businesses in upstate New York interested in participating in community solar can now learn more about the program. Subscribers at Heath Brook and Sand Brook are already beginning to see solar credits applied to their utility statements.
