At the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, SolarQuarter team spoke with Dr. Hong Soo Goh, a leading expert in PV, energy storage, and power systems at Sungrow MENA & Central Asia. He shares insights on Sungrow’s R&D vision, grid-forming storage, advanced thermal management, and the technologies shaping resilient, intelligent power systems for the global energy transition.

Could you outline Sungrow’s R&D strategy and technology roadmap over the next few years, particularly across energy storage, grid-forming solutions, inverters, and digital energy technologies?

Sungrow’s R&D strategy is firmly aligned with the accelerating global energy transition. Our focus is on delivering highly efficient, intelligent, and grid-supportive solutions across energy storage systems, power electronics, and digital energy platforms. As renewable penetration increases, grid stability, efficiency, and system intelligence are becoming mission-critical, and our roadmap is designed to address these challenges at scale.

Energy storage is increasingly viewed as a core infrastructure asset. How is Sungrow advancing innovation in this segment?

Energy storage has become fundamental to modern power systems. Sungrow has launched several next-generation products this year, including our PowerTitan series energy storage systems, which integrates advanced power electronics and system-level intelligence.

From an R&D perspective, our primary focus areas include improving system efficiency, enhancing reliability, and reducing operational losses. By leveraging silicon carbide (SiC) technology in our power conversion systems (PCS), we have achieved efficiency levels as high as 99.5%. At the same time, we are working to further reduce auxiliary power consumption to improve total system performance.

Thermal management is a critical factor for battery performance and safety. What innovations is Sungrow developing in this area?

Thermal management is central to long-term system stability and safety. Sungrow has invested significantly in advanced cooling technologies, particularly liquid cooling combined with AI-driven thermal control. Our proprietary bionic thermal balance technology ensures temperature differences between battery cells are maintained within approximately 2.5°C, which substantially improves battery lifespan and operational safety.

Looking ahead, we are expanding the use of AI algorithms to support predictive diagnostics, real-time system optimization, and proactive fault prevention across both battery systems and PCS platforms.

As grids become more dependent on storage for stability, how is Sungrow positioning itself to support large-scale and hybrid projects globally?

Grid-scale energy storage demand is expanding rapidly worldwide. Sungrow’s strategy is centered on standardized, modular solutions that can address close to 80% of global utility-scale storage requirements.

We emphasize factory pre-integration and containerized delivery models, which allow systems to be shipped largely pre-assembled. This approach significantly shortens project timelines—reducing deployment cycles from years to months. To support global demand, Sungrow continues to strengthen localization through manufacturing and assembly facilities in key regions, including China, India, and Southeast Asia, ensuring supply chain resilience and faster project execution.

How has your experience been at the exhibition, and what opportunities do you foresee for 2026?

The coming years, particularly 2026, will be pivotal for the industry. While innovation remains a priority, system stability and grid compatibility are equally important. At Sungrow, we are focused on launching products that not only advance technology but also help utilities and system operators address real-world grid challenges.
