Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has commissioned a 71 MWp DC / 52 MW AC solar power plant in Prayagraj, reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy and sustainability. The inauguration took place on the sidelines of India Energy Week (IEW) 2026, with Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri presiding over the ceremony.
Spread across approximately 210 acres, the plant comprises around 129,000 solar modules, supported by 1,324 metric tonnes of structural steel and 294 kilometres of cabling, and is connected to the grid via a 132 kV transmission line. Once operational, the facility is expected to generate approximately 103.61 million units of green electricity annually, which will supply BPCL refineries in Mumbai, Bina, and Kochi.
The project is projected to reduce carbon emissions by around 75,150 metric tonnes per year, equivalent to planting nearly 1.25 crore trees, demonstrating BPCL’s commitment to clean energy transition.
Senior BPCL officials present at the event included Sanjay Khanna, Director (Refineries) with Additional Charge of Chairman & Managing Director; Subhankar Sen, Director (Marketing); and D. D. Sarkar, Chief General Manager (Renewable Energy).
The commissioning of the Prayagraj solar plant marks a key milestone in BPCL’s renewable energy roadmap, supporting India’s broader sustainability goals and the national transition toward low-carbon energy solutions.
