Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has inaugurated a 71 MWp solar power plant in Prayagraj, marking a significant step in the companyโs energy transition strategy.
The project was virtually inaugurated by Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, during India Energy Week, highlighting BPCLโs expanding focus on renewable energy integration.
The solar facility has an installed capacity of 71 MWp (DC) / 52 MW (AC) and is expected to generate approximately 103.61 million units of green electricity annually. The project is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by nearly 75,150 metric tonnes each yearโan environmental impact equivalent to planting around 1.25 crore trees.
Spread across 210 acres, the plant has been developed using approximately 1.29 lakh solar modules, supported by 1,324 metric tonnes of structural steel and nearly 294 kilometres of cabling infrastructure. It is connected to the grid through a 132 kV transmission line to ensure efficient evacuation of renewable power.
The electricity generated at the Prayagraj plant will be supplied to BPCLโs refineries in Mumbai, Bina and Kochi, contributing to cleaner refinery operations and supporting the companyโs sustainability roadmap.
The commissioning of the project reinforces BPCLโs commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio while aligning with Indiaโs broader clean energy and decarbonisation objectives.
