Maxeon Solar Technologies and Shanghai AIKO Solar Energy Co., Ltd. have announced a new patent licensing agreement related to advanced solar technologies. Under this agreement, AIKO will gain access to Maxeonโs Back Contact (BC) solar cell and module patents in markets outside the United States. This includes not only the companyโs existing patents but also any new patents that may be developed over the next five years.
As part of the deal, both companies have agreed to resolve ongoing legal disputes. Maxeon will withdraw and terminate all current and potential patent enforcement actions against AIKO. In return, AIKO will also withdraw its efforts to challenge or invalidate Maxeonโs patents. This mutual decision is expected to reduce legal conflicts and create a more cooperative environment between the two firms.
The agreement highlights the growing importance of intellectual property in the solar sector. It also reflects a broader industry trend toward collaboration and innovation. By settling their disputes and sharing technology, both companies aim to support the development of more efficient solar solutions and contribute to the overall growth of the global renewable energy market.
