LET’S BEGIN WITH A GLIMPSE OF YOUR COMPANY’S PRESENCE AND OFFERINGS IN INDIA?
Mahindra Susten delivered their first utility-scale solar PV project in 2011. Since then Mahindra Susten has successfully executed 1.21 GW of grid connected solar projects and has 1.99 GW under execution as on date. This rapid growth has led Mahindra Susten to become one of the leading players in solar industry in India.
Aligned with the Government of India’s Solar plans of targeting US$ 100 billion of investment and 100 GW of solar capacity by 2022, Mahindra Susten is ramping up its project execution capacity to target 1.5-2 GW of solar project execution in one year.
Mahindra Susten also achieved a major success in global market and has executed 6MW solar project in Thailand and has 400MW and 200 MW of solar project under execution in Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh respectively.
Apart from EPC projects, the company is focusing on creating value products in Solar like solar tracker, solar water pump, DG-PV hybrid system (that provides reliable power by smartly alternating between solar diesel generator output), energy storage solutions and to adopt to new emerging sectors like floating solar. These products/ solutions will focus on making affordable solar energy available to a wider customer base.
WHAT INNOVATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE RECENT YEARS IN THE UTILITY INDUSTRY? HOW FAR HAS THIS INDUSTRY COME FROM ITS INITIAL YEARS?
Solar Industry has witnessed continuous improvements in recent years in terms of overall improvement in the construction quality, cost-savings through value- engineering, high-end analytics and an excellent customer experience. The industry has travelled from Kilowatt scale to an ambitious target of 100GW of solar by 2022.
The rapid growth has been fuelled by improvements in module technology right from polycrystalline, Mono Perc, Bi-facial PV modules, and by providing of higher efficiency cells leading to higher Wp capacity of modules to as big as 500Wp PV modules.
The inverter technology has seen a big jump wherein the industry has shifted from <1 MW inverter to 2.5-3 MW inverters. The shift in higher capacity central inverter has affected string inverter making their mark in multi MW projects and such competing technologies and value engineering gives Solar industry an exciting ground for continuous improvement and innovation.
WHAT TECHNOLOGICAL BREAKTHROUGHS CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOUR COMPANY IN THE COMING YEARS?
Apart from creating value products for renewable sector, Mahindra Susten aims to design and adopt automated trenching, usage of drones and high-end analytics i.e. geospatial software for effective site contour analysis and drainage, cloud based 24/7 monitoring and testing kits to ensure robust checks on construction related quality and faster synchronization of PV projects support during charging of PV plant.
In addition to this, Mahindra Susten has designed and developed India’s first state of art, in house mobile PV test lab (NABL certified) to improve plant performance and analytics and has plans to provide the same as third party services.
