With the Indian solar market growing at a healthy rate, there has been much discussion in recent days of reducing the BoS in solar projects to win bids. With lower tariff projects around the corner, an urgency has taken hold to discard the outdated technology of making pre-engineered civil structures, smaller block sizes and lower voltage inverters in utility-scale projects and that is the reason why Sungrow redesigned the central inverter into turnkey inverter solution. These plug and play inverter solutions have provision to feed auxiliary plant loads without making additional investment and has capability of advanced troubleshooting using IV curve tracking at inputs. Today our string inverters have been designed with 5 level topology which has made the inverters more compact and compatible to meet stringent grid connectivity requirements. Horizontal installation of Sungrow string inverters also make these inverters unique from others.In order to stay competitive and innovative in this market, our R&D team plays a crucial role as it continuously collects data from the market in order to make improvements to the product. The major challenge R&D team faces in a competitive market such as India is offering the inverters with best of performance in adverse conditions at a low-cost. In order to do so, engineers will keep on doing continuous process and design improvements.Sungrow will keep focusing on giving new innovative products to market and serving our customers in more effective way. Our current Bangalore factory can produce 3 GW solar inverters per annum, we also have plan to establish local R&D in India further to develop the product in line to Indian customer requirements.

They have their own view for the string inverter technologies.Now SOFARSOLAR engineers are working on 2nd generation of 36kW to 70kW inverters, as well as three phase hybrid inverters. They believe design and QA are most important for solar inverter manufacturers:

R&D Design:

1. Certifications: We have done seven types of IEC certifications for Indian market.

2. Components selection: We chose first-class brands components from US, Japan and Germany to make sure long life time of our inverters.

3. Heat radiation: All aluminum structure, distributed layout and thermal paste is used on key heat sause.

4. Protection: Type-III SPD as standard components for all inverters; type-II SPD as standard components for 50kW to 70kW inverters. PCB based type-II SPD will be used for some inverters in future.5. Cases: All aluminum structure for IP65.

QA:

1. PCB: three-proof design; long life time.

2. Key components: Fluid dispensing for fixing key components.

3. Environment protection: all manufacturer process is satisfied with environment protection requirements.

4. Testing: single board testing, high-pot testing, aging testing, function testing, gas-tightness testing, etc. 

Special Technology:

1. IV curve scanning for monitoring

2. SD card for local data storage

3. Fuse free design on DC side

Engineers believes more and more string inverters will be used for ground projects. So they are working on 1500V technology and PLC communication for string inverters. In future, more advanced technologies will be used in inverters in Indian market.

1. 1500Vdc String Inverter for Utility

Higher-voltage systems enable longer strings, which allow for fewer combiner boxes, less wiring and trenching, and therefore less labor. 1500V solar systems are expected to dramatically reduce installation and balance of system costs for utility-scale PV systems. According to GTM’s research, installing 1,500 Vdc systems in place of now-standard 1,000 Vdc can lower costs by as much as $0.05 per watt. 2.
