200 MW hybrid power plant coming up at Ramagiri

Technology News

Land acquisition for the 200 MW wind-cum-solar hybrid power project at Ramagiri town in the district is on the verge of completion, according to National Renewable Energy Development Corporation district manager Kodandarama Murthy.

A committee constituted by Joint Collector Dilly Rao with NREDCAP and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) would look into the land compensation issues.

The project will be spread in 1,000-acre land located in Ramagiri and Kanaganipalle mandals. Already, 750 acres have been acquired in Ramagiri and another 250 acres in Kanaganapalle.

The World Bank-aided project costs Rs 1,400 crore and is being implemented by the National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) and the SECI. The unique project is another feather in the cap of Ramagiri town which hosted several wind and solar power projects.

The power project is likely to be completed by 2019. The APTransco will set up power pooling stations (PPS) in an area of 10 acres. The National Institute of Wind Energy and the Solar Energy Corporation of India will be overseeing the solar and wind energy project, the largest ever in the power town of Ramagiri mandal.

Murthy told 'The Hans India' that a 35-km line from Ramagiri to Hindupur will also be laid to supply power to the National Power Grid. The uniqueness of the project is that it will have 40-megawatt hour storage capacity while the total power production is 160 MW. The project promoters have already submitted environmental impact assessment.

Meanwhile, the NTPC solar project at NP Kunta near Kadiri is also making headway. Out of the 1,000 MW solar power capacity 250 MW plant had been executed. It is currently producing 250 MW.

International tenders have been called for the remaining 750-MW plant construction, but the bidders are seeking clarity on the power purchase offer of the state government. However, NREDCAP sources say that it is the bidders who have to indicate their demand for viable operation of the plant.
