RPD Energy (RPD), a national leader in green energy solutions, structured the deals that provide Iron Mountain with access to 100 percent renewable power for its facilities in both states.

RPD's flexible, variable energy solutions complement Iron Mountain's overall mix of purchasing strategies, which include traditional power purchase agreements (PPAs) and on-site projects. The Texas and Illinois transactions amount to over 25,000 MWh of green energy per year over the next three years. This is enough to power more than 3,000 homes annually, and adds to the amount of direct, physical energy in Iron Mountain's overall energy portfolio supported by renewable sources.

National Work Zone Awareness Week, which began in 1999, is designed to inform motorists about the dangers of driving through work zones and of the perils faced by construction and maintenance workers. According to GDOT's most recent statistics, there were 20,834 total crashes in Georgia work zones in 2017, resulting in 7,276 injuries and 55 fatalities.

 Work Zone Safety Tips You Can Use:

  • Obey the Rules of Work Zone: (1) Pay attention (2) Slow down (3) Watch for workers
  • Expect the Unexpected. Things may change quickly. Normal speed limits may be reduced, traffic lanes may be closed, narrowed, or shifted, and people may be working on or near the road. 
  • Don't Speed. Obey the posted speed limit, even when workers are not present. In 2016, there were 190 work zone fatal crashes where speeding was a factor.
  • Don't Tailgate. Keep a safe distance between you and the car ahead of you and the construction workers and their equipment.
  • Obey Road Crew Flaggers and Pay Attention to Signs. Failure to obey speed limit signs or a flagger's traffic control directions can result in hefty fines and/or imprisonment. 
  • Stay Alert and Minimize Distractions. Give your full attention to the roadway and avoid changing radio stations or using cell phones and other electronic devices while approaching and driving in a work zone.
  • Georgia is a Hands-Free state. As of July 2018, it's now illegal to hold your phone while driving in the state of Georgia. Drivers caught using their phones while not parked face a $50 fine, which doubles upon their second offense. 

In July of 2016, utility vehicles were included in Georgia's "Move Over Law," which requires drivers to move over one lane when crews are working on the roadside. The addition of utility workers to the law will help to ensure safety for linemen who may be working on the roadside at night or following severe weather to repair damaged equipment or restore power for customers.  If drivers are unable to move over, they should slow down below the speed limit and be prepared to stop.

The safety of Georgia Power's employees and customers is a top priority every day. UMC purports to engage in the research, development, and manufacture of products in the solar energy and light-emitting diode industries. 

On May 13, 2016, the Company announced that it had entered into a Dynamic Random-Access Memory ("DRAM") Technology Cooperation Agreement with Fujian Jianhua Integrated Circuit Co. Ltd. ("Fujian"). Under the agreement, Fujian was to provide UMC with related equipment for its research and development, as well as service fees subject to the progress of the technology development.  UMC was to develop DRAM related technologies for Fujian and deliver such development results to Fujian before May 12, 2021.  The developed technologies were to be jointly owned by both parties.

DRAM is a memory device product used in electronics to store information.  DRAM is a technologically advanced commodity that is widely used in digital electronics, as well as leading-edge computing, consumer, networking, automotive, industrial, embedded, and mobile productions.

At all relevant times, one of UMC's primary competitors has been Micron Technology, Inc. ("Micron"), a leading U.S. semiconductor company known for its development and production of DRAM products.

Throughout the Class Period, Defendants made materially false and misleading statements regarding UMC's business, operational and compliance policies.  Specifically, Defendants made false and/or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose that:  (i) UMC conspired with Fujian to steal trade secrets from Micron relating to its research and development of DRAM; (ii) UMC hired former Micron employees for the purpose of stealing such information from Micron; (iii) the foregoing conduct placed UMC and certain of its employees at an increased risk of criminal and regulatory investigation by the U.S. government; and (iv) as a result, UMC's public statements were materially false and misleading at all relevant times.

On November 1, 2018, the U.S. Department of Justice ("DOJ") indicted UMC, Fujian, and Chen Zhengkun a.k.a. Stephen Chen ("Chen"), a former Micron employee hired by UMC, for conspiracy to commit economic espionage, conspiracy to commit theft of trade secrets, and economic espionage (receiving and possessing stolen trade secrets).  The indictment stated that the companies conspired to steal trade secrets from Micron relating to its research and development of memory storage devices.  According to the indictment, the conspiracy to commit economic espionage began in or around January 2016, the conspiracy to commit theft of trade secrets began in or about October 2015, and the economic espionage (receiving and possessing stolen trade secrets) began in or about February 2016.

According to the DOJ's indictment, Chen, a Taiwanese national, resigned as the President of Micron's subsidiary, Micron Memory Taiwan Co., Ltd. ("MMT"), in July 2015. Thereafter, Chen began working for UMC as its Senior Vice President and Fabrication Director in Taiwan in September 2015.  According to the indictment, Chen, as well as agents of UMC, later hired additional former employees of Micron who stole Micron trade secrets and, at the direction of UMC employees, used such trade secrets to enhance UMC's DRAM technologies.

As news of UMC's indictment reached the market, UMC's ADS price fell by $0.19 per share, or nearly 10%, over the following two trading sessions to close at $1.71 per share on November 5, 2018.

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced three new renewable energy projects as part of its long-term goal to power all Amazon Web Services (AWS) global infrastructure with renewable energy. These projects – one in Ireland, one in Sweden, and one in the United States – will deliver wind-generated energy that will total over 229 megawatts (MW) of power, with expected generation of over 670,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable energy annually. The new projects are part of AWS’s long-term commitment to achieve 100 percent renewable energy for its global infrastructure. Once complete, these projects, combined with AWS’s previous nine renewable energy projects, are expected to generate more than 2,700,000 MWh of renewable energy annually – equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of over 262,000 US homes, which is approximately the size of the city of Nashville, Tennessee.

“Each of these projects brings us closer to our long-term commitment to use 100 percent renewable energy to power our global AWS infrastructure,” said Peter DeSantis, Vice President of Global Infrastructure and Customer Support, Amazon Web Services. “These projects are well-positioned to serve AWS data centers in Ireland, Sweden, and the US. We expect more projects in 2019 as we continue toward our goal of powering all AWS global infrastructure with renewable energy.”

Amazon has committed to buying the energy from a new wind project in Ireland, a 91.2 MW wind farm in Donegal. The Donegal wind farm project is expected to deliver clean energy no later than the end of 2021.

“AWS’s investment in renewable projects in Ireland illustrates their continued commitment to adding clean energy to the grid and it will make a positive contribution to Ireland’s renewable energy goals,” said Leo Varadkar, An Taoiseach of Ireland. “As a significant employer in Ireland, it is very encouraging to see Amazon taking a lead on this issue. We look forward to continuing to work with Amazon as we strive to make Ireland a leader on renewable energy.”

Amazon will also purchase 91 MW of power from a new wind farm in Bäckhammar, Sweden, which is expected to deliver renewable energy by the end of 2020.

“Sweden has long been known for ambitious renewable energy goals, and this new wind farm showcases both our country’s leadership and AWS’s commitment to renewable energy,” said Anders Ygeman, Sweden’s Minister for Energy and Digital Development. “This is a significant step in Sweden’s renewable energy production as we work toward our target of 100 percent renewable energy by 2040.”

California leads the United States in renewable electricity generation from non-hydroelectric sources, and the state’s Tehachapi Mountains, where AWS’s wind farm will be located, contain some of the largest wind farms in the country. The wind farm project in Tehachapi is expected to bring up to 47 MW of new renewable energy capacity by the end of 2020.

Beyond the sustainability initiatives focused on powering the AWS global infrastructure, Amazon recently announced Shipment Zero, which is Amazon’s vision to make all Amazon shipments net zero carbon, with 50 percent of all shipments net zero by 2030. Additional sustainability programs across the company include Amazon Wind Farm Texas, which adds more than 1 million MWh of clean energy each year. In total, Amazon has enabled 53 wind and solar projects worldwide, which produce more than 1,016 MW and are expected to deliver over 3,075,636 million MWh of energy annually. These projects support hundreds of jobs, while providing tens of millions of dollars of investment in local communities. Amazon has also set a goal to host solar energy systems at 50 fulfillment centers by 2020. Heolios EnTG will develop, finance, construct, own, operate and maintain six renewable energy projects in Mexico. Two of the plants are onshore wind while the remaining four are solar photovoltaic, totaling 898.7 MW, enough to power 1.3 million Mexican households. The joint-venture received approval from Mexico’s federal competition commission, COFECE, on March 28, 2019.

The projects were granted 15-year power purchase agreements through Mexican power auctions. One of the power plants, Tres Mesas 3, is a 50 MW wind power facility that entered into commercial operation in March 2019, ahead of schedule. The remaining plants are currently in various stages of construction and will start commercial operation in 2019 and 2020.

Mexico is endowed with extraordinary solar and wind resources. Aware of this potential, the Mexican government issued an energy law in 2015 transitioning the country to a low-carbon growth model targeting 35% of clean energy sources by 2024. La tensión de circuito abierto (Voc) es ahora superior a 690mV con factores de llenado de hasta el 83%. Estos notables resultados se obtienen utilizando el mismo equipo compatible con la industria que se usa para producir células bifaciales de p-PERC, añadiendo una difusión de boro».

Un lote de 12 nuevas células de tamaño M2 (244,3 cm²), medidas en la ISFH CalTec, arrojó una eficiencia media de conversión del 23,0 por ciento, con el mejor recubrimiento celular del 23,2 por ciento. Nuestras propias mediciones revelaron una bifacialidad superior al 80 por ciento. Además, empleadas en condiciones estándar de iluminación frontal combinadas con una iluminación solar posterior adicional del 0,15, las celdas pueden alcanzar una eficiencia de conversión efectiva de casi el 26 por ciento. Además, ISFH Caltec midió una corriente inversa promedio de -0,4A (a -12V), lo que apunta a excelentes características de descomposición.

La tecnología n-PERT desarrollada tiene una serie de ventajas inherentes frente a la tecnología de células PERC de tipo p, lo que se pone de manifiesto en estas nuevas células: el potencial de mayor eficiencia gracias a una menor sensibilidad a las impurezas metálicas y a la ausencia de degradación inducida por la luz (LID). Por lo tanto, la tecnología PERT de tipo n podría convertirse en un competidor rentable de las células PERC de tipo p. Para ello, las celdas actuales tienen una rejilla frontal serigrafiada y almohadillas para soldar en la parte posterior, lo que en conjunto equivale a menos de 80 mg de plata utilizados por celda.

Imec y Jolywood confían en que sus células n-PERT bifaciales pronto alcanzarán eficiencias superiores al 23,5 por ciento, junto con una bifacialidad superior al 90 por ciento.
