Thoreau Farm Going Solar

Thoreau Farm, in Concord, MA – is keeping current. Solect Energy said that it is installing a 7 KW solar system on the property.

The company will own the system and donate the power to the historic site. Canadian Solar is contributing panels and Yaskawa-Solectria Solar the inverter for the project.

Commentary in the press release links Thoreau’s ideals with the current use of solar energy. The farm already is sustainable: It uses an electric pump for heating and cooling, environmentally sound shingles, a rainwater collection unit, a greywater disposal system and a composting toilet, the press release says.

Ingersoll Rand subsidiary Trane in April was awarded a contract to upgrade 10 historic buildings in the New York City area. The contract could reach $114 million.
