Following multiple requests from the industry, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has extended the timeline for implementation of of solar parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects with total capacity of 40 GW by two years,
from the initial deadline of FY2020 to FY2022, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said on Wednesday.
The timeline has been extended without any additional financial implication, the Ministry order noted.
This new order will provide more time to all parties in the development of solar parks and ultra-mega parks, including agencies responsible for tendering the projects such as SECI and NTPC and private developers facing challenges with land acquisition and securing power evacuation from the plants.
The programme approved by the government in March 2017 aimed at enhancing solar park capacity from 20,000 MW to 40,000 MW by setting up at least 50 parks of 500 MW and above by FY20 with the government sanctioning ₹ 8,100 crore.
Projects of around 21,000 MW have already been approved under this programme.
