Solar powered boats for Kerala

Kerala government is testing and plans to soon launch solar powered boats on it’s popular backwaters destination to make the state a greener state. Known as God’s own land, Kerala is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India and according to a recent survey has proved to be the top destination for family vacations.

The ferry is built by NavAlt Solar and Electric Boats and will make its first run in July. The ferry, which has been commissioned by The Kerala State Water Transport Department (KSWTD) will initially run on the Vaikkom-Thavanakkadavu stretch that is a distance of 2.5 Kms and depending on viability, will be extended to other routes as well.
