The UAE’s Minister of Climate Change and Environment, HE Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, stated that Abu Dhabi would soon install a 2GW solar power plant in the Al Dhafra region. The minister made the announcement at the Abu Dhabi Climate Meeting.

According to the UAE news agency, Wam the minister said.“This solar plant will eclipse the record-breaking 1GW Noor Abu Dhabi plant,”

This was revealed after commercial operations began on Noor Abu Dhabi, an AED 3.2bn 1,177MW solar power plant .

Noor Abu Dhabi has been built as part of the UAE’s Energy Strategy 2050.it was launched in 2017 to raise the contribution of clean energy in the country’s total energy mix to 50 percent by 2050.

Recently, Abu Dhabi Power Corporation (ADPower) announced the lowest tariff for solar power in the world. ADPower’s subsidiary, Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), delivered a virtual read-out of five consortia’s technical and commercial bids for the 2 GW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Independent Power Producer (IPP) project – to be located in Abu Dhabi. The project has received, from the first-ranked bidder, the world’s most cost-competitive tariff for solar PV energy, set at AED 4.97 fils/kWh (USD 1.35 cents/kWh) on a Levelized Electricity Cost (LEC) basis, which is approximately 44% lower than tariff set three years ago on the ‘Noor Abu Dhabi’ project – Abu Dhabi’s first large-scale solar PV project and a world record tariff-setter at the time.
