MNRE Appoints ISA As Implementing Agency For One Sun One World


The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy recently issued  RFP for Developing a Long Term Vision, Implementation Plan, Road Map and Institutional Framework for implementing One Sun One World One Grid (OSOWOG). The Ministry decided that International Solar Alliance (ISA) will be the implementing agency for carrying out all the activities of OSOWOG initiative, i.e., the bid process management and all subsequent activities. ISA will issue appropriate corrigendum to the RFP based upon pre-bid queries and invite the final bids. Raigarh-Pugalur HVDC Pole I Put Into Commercial Operation


POWERGRID commissions Pole-1 of the Raigarh Pugalur HVDC Transmission system comprising {1500 MegaWatt (MW)} +800 kilovolt (kV), Raigarh HVDC Terminal Station (Chhattisgarh) & Pugalur HVDC Terminal Station (Tamil Nadu) along with 1765 kms long ±800 kV, HVDC line from Raigarh to Pugalur and 2 nos. of HVAC lines in Tamil Nadu. As per the statement of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), ‘Maharatna’ Enterprise under Ministry of Power, this system will facilitate power flow of 1500 MW from Western Region to Southern Region ensuring reliable and quality power supply.The pole-I having a 1500 MW capacity, is the first leg of the 6000 MW Raigarh – Pugalur HVDC Project, between Western and Southern Region, which is envisaged for evacuation of bulk power generated by Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in the state of Chhattisgarh using the State-of-the-Art HVDC technology. Implementation of the balance portion of this project is in an advanced stage and will be integrated in a phased manner during FY 2020-21.

MNRE Seeks Suggestions On Findings Of Third-party Evaluation of Offgrid & Decentralized CST Scheme

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)  recently issued a request for comments of stakeholders on findings of third-party evaluation of the ‘OffGrid and Decentralized Concentrated Solar Thermal (CST) Scheme’ and also on performance based financial support scheme. The third party evaluation of ‘Off-Grid and Decentralized Concentrated Solar Thermal (CST) Scheme’ of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy was conducted by Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI). In the report GERMI has presented its findings and also suggested providing performance based financial support to CST projects instead of capital subsidy earlier being provided by MNRE.Ministry also requested all concerned stakeholders to provide their comments/suggestions/views on the same latest by 21.09.2020 at

MNRE Issues Clarification For Implementation Of PM-KUSUM Scheme

Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)  recently passed notice on Clarification for implementation of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) Scheme. On 22.7.2019  Ministry issued guidelines for implementation of the PM-KUSUM Scheme  and subsequent amendments/ clarification was issued thereon.  Clarifications have been sought from State Implementing Agencies on certain issues relating  to implementing the PM-KUSUM Scheme. Accordingly the ministry issued the following clarification : (a) For Component-B and Component-C, the state share of subsidy shall be minimum 30% of the applicable MNRE benchmark cost or cost discovered through tender, whichever is lower. (b) Option is available with the farmer to install Universal Solar Pump Controller (USPC) under Component-B, for which the farmer has to bear the additional cost for USPC. (c) the states are free to provide additional financial support for replacement of existing pumps with energy efficient pumps. 

India Deploys Renewable Energy At Frenetic Pace; Enhances Solar Installed Capacity by More Than 13 Times

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a message at the inaugural session of First World Solar Technology Summit read out by Shri R.K. Singh, the President, International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly and Minister of State (I/C) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, said, today, that technology holds the key to scale up the use of solar energy. Technological achievements have already brought about a significant reduction in the price of solar power. A further reduction in the cost will provide a major boost to the use and expansion of renewable energy. He expressed confidence that the summit will help in developing new technologies and ensure that they become available to all. 

Cabinet Approves Asset Monetization Of Subsidiaries of POWERGRID Through Infrastructure Investment Trust

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a path breaking reform, has approved monetisation of assets of POWERGRID, a  Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under Ministry of Power, through Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) model. This is the first time any PSU in Power Sector will undertake asset recycling by monetising its assets through the InvIT model and using the proceeds to fund the new and under-construction capital projects.This approval would help POWERGRID to monetise in the first lot, assets with gross block value of more than 7000 crore. These assets, which are mainly High Voltage Transmission lines and substations, are held by POWERGRID in form of Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs). The proceeds from the asset monetization would be deployedby POWERGRID in their new and under-construction projects.

India Is Working On Clean Energy Mission With Collective Mindset: Piyush Goyal

Union Commerce and Industry & Railways Minister Piyush Goyal has said that India is working on Clean energy mission with a collective mindset. CSIR-CMERI Durgapur And NISE, Gurugram Sign MoU, As Strategic Association To Bolster Solar Energy Sector

CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI), Durgapur and National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), Gurugram joined hands by signing an online Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a ‘Strategic Association’ to bolster the Solar Energy sector across the nation on 7th September, 2020. The MoU was signed by Prof. (Dr.) Harish Hirani, Director, CSIR-CMERI, Durgapur and Dr. Arun Kumar Tripathy, Director.The institute is currently working on the development of Solar Energy based cooking system which will help in creating an energy reliant and carbon-neutral India in addition to the upliftment of the livelihood of the rural sector in India.

Action Packed Agenda To Mark First World Solar Technology Summit

Curtains go up on the first World Solar Technology Summit (WSTS) being organized by the International Solar Alliance (ISA), tomorrow afternoon (8th September, 1630 hours IST). More than 26000 participants from 149 countries have registered to join the virtual Summit which is expected to bring the spotlight on accelerating affordable and sustainable clean green energy by showcasing and deliberating on innovative state of the art next generation technologies in solar power.R.K. Singh, the President of the ISA Assembly and India’s Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister, and Ms Barbara Pompili, the Co- President of the ISA Assembly and France’s Minister for Ecological Transition will be joined by the Vice Presidents of ISA from Africa, Asia Pacific and the Latin American and Caribbean Region (LAC) during the inaugural address.  Prof K. Vijay Raghavan, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India will grace the inaugural and set the context for the deliberations.

REC Releases Annual Report for FY 2019-20; Achieves 2.26% Higher Net Worth

Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC), a public Infrastructure Finance Company in India’s power sector recently  released its annual report for FY 2019-20. During the financial year 2019-20, the Company sanctioned total loan assistance of `1,10,907.99 crore towards various power sector projects/schemes. The same included `55,811.89 crore sanctioned towards generation projects, `7,026.33 crore towards renewable Further, the Company disbursed a total loan amount of `75,666.95 crore in the financial year 2019-20. The same included `27,490.87 crore towards generation projects, `5,699.09 crore towards renewable energy projects, `30,856.19 crore towards T&D projects, `6,390.00 crore towards short term, medium term & other loans and `5,230.80 crore of counterpart funding under DDUGJY including DDG (Decentralized Distributed Generation) and SAUBHAGYA schemes.
