Egypt Inaugurates 1465 MWs Solar Energy Complex


President of Egypt, El-Sisi inaugurates the Benban Solar Energy Complex with the capacity of 1465 MWs in Aswan, Egypt. The complex was set up in partnership with international expertise and the private sector.

Around $4 billion was invested in this complex which is the 10th largest solar park of the world. The solar power project created 11,720 direct and 23,440 indirect jobs when the project was implemented. After the operation starts, it will create 6000 jobs. Also, 10% of the company’s profit is allocated towards social responsibility and supporting the community.

The project was implemented in the year 2015 with the partnership of 40 companies comprising Acciona, Alcazar Energy, Total, Eneri, CHINT, and others.

The Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker said that Egypt has managed to grow its power capacity to a level where it can now export. Egypt plans to raise its renewable energy to 42% by 2035.
