Masdar plans to increase its production capacity to 100 GW worldwide according to the UAE Industry Minister Sultan al-Jaber. Masdar has invested in solar and wind projects in 40 countries.

Established in 2006, Masdar, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, is a global leader in renewable energy and sustainable urban development. The company helps in maintaining the leadership of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the global energy sector while supporting the diversification of both its economy and energy sources for the benefit of future generations.

“Our ambition is to accelerate this development globally to reach 100 GW and ultimately double that again to 200 GW,” he said. The timeframe for the increase is not yet specified. Last month the Abu Dhabi government announced to increase the capacity of Masdar to 50 GW by 2030.

Wholly owned by the Abu Dhabi government’s Mubadala Investment Company, Masdar is supporting the UAE’s transition towards a knowledge-based economy. A catalyst for renewable energy development in the Arab world over the past decade, Masdar is demonstrating how the business community can deliver on the global sustainability agenda.
