NTPC’s 20 MW Solar Capacity at Kawas Begins Commercial Operation

State-owned power giant NTPC announced on Saturday the beginning of commercial operation of the first part capacity of 20 MW at its 56 MW Kawas solar project in Gujarat.

“Consequent upon successful commissioning, the first part capacity of 20 MW out of 56 MW Kawas Solar PV Project at Kawas, Gujarat, is declared on Commercial Operation from 00:00 Hrs of May 14, 2022,” said NTPC in a BSE filing.

With this, the standalone introduced and commercial limit of NTPC has reached 54,616.68 MW. Further, the NTPC bunch introduced and commercial capacity has touched 68,981.68 and 68,321.68 MW, respectively.

Recently, NTPC has Inked Pact with Gujarat Gas Limited To Blend Green Hydrogen in Piped Natural Gas. With the continued focus on a clean environment, NTPC has taken up the initiative of blending green hydrogen in Piped Natural Gas (PNG) network of Gujarat Gas Limited (GGL) at NTPC Kawas. A formal agreement between the two companies has been signed.

Green hydrogen will be produced by using electricity from the existing 1 MW floating solar project of NTPC Kawas. This will be blended with PNG in a predetermined proportion and will be used for cooking applications in NTPC Kawas Township. Initially, the percentage of hydrogen blending in the PNG shall be around 5% and after successful completion, it shall be further increased.

Last month NTPC had announced the commercial operation of 22 megawatts of floating solar capacity in Kayamkulam, Kerala. The capacity, was part of its 92 MW Kayamkulam floating solar PV project, NTPC said in a statement.
