Statkraft Commissions 76 MW Solar Plant in Tamil Nadu

Statkraft has commissioned its first large-scale solar energy plant in India. The Nellai photo voltaic energy plant is located at Ettanakulam village in Manur Taluk in Tirunelveli district in the state of Tamil Nadu in India.


The solar power plant is commissioned with photovoltaic modules with a total capacity of 76 MWp. A 230 KV transmission line with a length of 2.5 kilometres connects the plant to the nearest transmission utility grid, TANTRANSCO.

It can generate 120 GWh of renewable power per 12 months, equal to the annual energy consumption of greater than 500,000 Indian houses. Nellai solar plant will generate an estimated 124 GWh annually.

Statkraft specializes in the development of utility-scale greenfield photovoltaic projects in India. Nellai is our primary mission and it helps us to achieve this enterprise goal. Jurgen Tzschoppe, Statkraft Govt Vice President for Worldwide Energy, stated.

The Nellai photovoltaic park was developed under the Indian Group Captive model. Clients own a minimum share of 26 percent of the plant and can purchase the electrical energy produced by long-term energy buy arrangements (PPAs).

German Belectric Photovoltaic India Non-public Ltd was responsible for the development. They will also ship the operation and upkeep companies for the first three years.

Nellai will help Tamil Nadu’s industries meet their renewable energy needs at a reasonable price. Rahul Varshney, Nation Supervisor India at Statkraft, stated that we aim to become a major developer and operator for hydro, wind, and photo voltaic properties, spreading investments through applied sciences, enterprise fashions.

Statkraft is present in India since 2004. It has a manufacturing capacity of 215 MW. The 150 MW Tidong hydropower station in Himachal Pradesh, which is currently under development, is scheduled to be completed in 12 months time.
