Egypt Launches A New Solar Energy Project With A Production Capacity Of 10 Gigawatts In SCZONE

The Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr Mohamed Shaker, inaugurated a power plant project using solar energy with a Capacity of 6.85 MWp, and energy production of about 10 gigawatt-hours annually of solar energy. The power plant is held in Jushi-Egypt one of Teda-Egypt factories which are specialized in fiberglass manufacturing, at Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), in Sokhna Zone. The solar energy project is considered a promising partnership between Jushi and Enara Capital Group, a leading renewable energy company, in Egypt.

Dr Mohamed Shaker the Minister of Electricity commented, โ€œThere are great efforts made by various governmental authorities to implement the Egyptian strategy in the electricity sector, as we target reaching 42% of the total energy consumed by Egypt to be from new and renewable sources, by 2035. We pay great attention to such projects and cooperate with neighbouring countries in electrical interconnection such as the coming project among Egypt, Greece, and Italy, which reflects Egyptโ€™s great capabilities in this field. We also try to accelerate the pace of work in green hydrogen production projects in coinciding with Egyptโ€™s hosting of the Climate Change Summit COP27.

Waleid Gamal Eldien Chairman of SCZONE mentioned, โ€œLaunching such a promising project of solar cells to generate clean energy in one of the most important factories located in SCZONE, is an important step towards the transformation of renewable energy in our industrial projects. This project represents the implementation of political leadership directives toward the use of clean energy. We give the full support for this kind of project to localize renewable energy industries in the economic zone .โ€

Eng. Sherif El-Gabaly, Chairman of Enara Capital Group said, โ€œWe are thankful for the government support to our company since its establishment in 2014. We considered this project as the beginning of the optimal exploitation of SCZONEโ€™s potential in generating clean and renewable energy. we also thank all the concerned parties for facilitating the cooperation in this project with our Chinese partners.โ€

Wu ping, General Manager of Jushi-Egypt announced, โ€œWe appreciate this partnership, especially since Jushi Factory is one of the largest investments among Chinese investments in Egypt. It includes 3 production lines with a production capacity of 200,000 tons per year. It is also one of the largest Fiberglass projects, as it has a production value of more than $220 million with export returns of about $200 million, annually.โ€
