Qassim Municipality signed an agreement to lease plots of land to the SEC, Saudi Electricity Company to develop a renewable energy project.
The provider will construct renewable energy projects covering an area of more than 23 million square meters at the Al Badayea governorate.
The renewables project covers generation, transmission, steam plants as well as landfills.
Power will be produced by renewable sources including solar (photovoltaic/concentrated), wind, and waste energy, as per the report.
Saudi Arabia has set a goal to have 27.3 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2023. This includes 20 GW of solar PV, as well as 7 GW of wind energy.
According to a recently released report by GlobalData, Saudi Arabia is likely to miss these targets if they continue to build new capacity at their current pace.
