Choithrams’ new 100 percent renewable energy-powered food production and distribution facilities mark a turning point in the company’s long journey to excellence. The buzzing hub employs more than 800 people and is spread over three warehouses in Dubaiโ€™s Al Quoz area. It switched to solar energy for all its energy requirements early this year.

SirajPower, UAE’s largest distributed solar energy provider, has installed a 2.7MWp solar power plant. This will generate 4.5GW of power by the end of the year. It will also offset nearly 3,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide. This energy savings corresponds to over 12 million smartphones being fully charged.

Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 sets out the goals and guidelines for making Dubai a global center of clean energy. The city will aim to get 75% of its energy from renewable sources by 2050. Choithrams and other leading brands are the first to help bring this vision to fruition.

Choithrams CEO Rajiv Warrier says, “As a brand which listens and responds to the needs of customers and stakeholders, sustainability has been a value that we embed into all our systems. We are committed to responsible business practices and environmental stewardship. This includes energy-saving measures and conserving water. It also involves a strict approach to food safety and a constant focus on best waste reduction practices throughout the year.

“We actively promote sustainable bands in all of our stores; customer communications and community-led activations encourage plastic waste reduction while offering eco-friendly alternatives for single-use bags.

The company’s state-of-the-art solar rooftop power station allows us to further optimize resources and improve environmental efficiency. This will allow us to reduce traditional energy consumption in our Al Quoz warehouse.

Laurent Longuet, CEO at SirajPower, says, “The Fast-Moving-Consumer-Goods industry and climate change are deeply intertwined, and we believe that sustainability is becoming the epicenter of FMCG business strategy. Choithrams is a well-respected brand that trusts us to help them achieve sustainability and other environmental benefits. We are proud to announce the addition of Choithrams FMCG to our expanding portfolio. This further demonstrates our commitment to helping businesses reduce their environmental footprint through innovative and effective solar solutions.

“The 2.7MWp solar power plant has been in operation for almost a year and will generate more than 4.5 GWh renewable energy by the end. This will reduce Choithramโ€™s environmental impact. The UAE’s commitment to clean energy and sustainable development is evident in the solar plant system.
