The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) on Saturday declared the commercial opening of the first 162.27 MW part of the 230-MW Ettayapuram Solar PV Project, Tamil Nadu.
The remaining portion is expected to become operational in the next week. NTPC stated that its standalone commercial and installed capacity had increased to 57,801.27 MW and that the group’s installed and commercial capacities have grown to 70,416.27 MW.
Naresh Anand, NTPC’s regional executive director for south, congratulated NTPC on the achievement of the milestone and reiterated his commitment to renewable energy. He said that the Ettayapuram Plant was being added to the NTPC Southern Region’s renewable energy capacity.
The commercial operation of solar power in the south has increased to 644.27 MW thanks to the Ettayapuram facility. The Ettayapuram solar plant covers approximately 900 acres. It uses 10.5 lakh panels made entirely of Indian-sourced solar panels. Drone-based digital technology was extensively used in plant construction, for surveillance and monitoring.
In the month of August this year NTPC had announced the commissioning of the first part of the 20 MW Gandhar Solar PV Project at Gandhar in Gujarat.
