Through its power generating arm, MERALCO PowerGen Corp., MERALCO is planning to commission two solar power plants and begin construction of hundreds of megawatts of renewable energy projects.
Jaime Azurin, MGEN CEO and President stated that they are looking to commission 150 MW of renewable power capacity in the first quarter of 2023.
MGEN currently has a 55 MW capacity in PowerSource First Bulacan Solar Inc. which began commercial operations in 2021.
One of the projects that will be commercially operational is a 75-MWac Solar Plant in Baraz in Rizal, a project by a joint venture between MGen Renewable Energy Inc. as well as MitRenewables Philippines Corp.
Commercial operations are also possible at the 68-MWac Ilocos Norte solar plant, a joint project of Vena Energy and MGReen.
Azurin stated that MGEN plans to start construction on hundreds and megawatt projects by 2023. MGEN intends to achieve 1500 MW of renewable power capacity within the next 7 years.
MGEN, together with its subsidiary Global Business Power Corp. has a total gross capability of 2,446 MW. It is made up of coal, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas, and solar power.
